Sensory Support–Garden Railroading

Another shot of the Zen Mt RR  ……..dinner train.

Since my childhood, I have enjoyed miniature, garden railroading for years.  (various gauges and scales; currently G-Scale)  We had a layout in our CT backyard, incorporated into the waterfeature/pond patio but discreetly hidden in the ground cover (pacasandra).  When our parents passed, the trains were relocated to Wickham Park (Manchester, CT) where they have been running during park hours for four years. (see link below to television clip of the park railroad)

Garden Railways magazine published an article on our park rendition of the family layout. (January issue 2015)

Since relocating to upstate NY two years ago, I have been working on the design and construction of a small, but inclusive layout (8X12′) outside my bedroom window that includes two waterfeatures, a snowshed, tunnel and tons of intrigue! (see attached pix above)  the layout is called– my Zen MT RR, as it provides solace, reflection, peace and tranquility for those who experience it.

In the morning mist, the Zen Mt RR takes a mysterious look.  (Fog created by a fogger…emanating from a hidden grotto.)

100_3622-2100_3713The 2017 season has begun.  The mining train and Main Line are both “on track”.

This is an interesting shot…capturing the tunnel view of the stone building in the back…along with flume….very edgy.

Another shot of the Zen Mt RR with the first train entering the tunnel.

The clip below is of the mining train engine at night….hoping it stays on the track on not falling into the water!
